It’s no secret that the Hungarian Bohemian Betyars, known for their ludicrous live gigs, revel in experimenting. As a result, the soon-to-be 15-year-old active band is welcoming collaborating acts from all over the world to join their musical universe. A true gem of these partnerships is their newly released track titled Rush, written in conjunction with the accomplished and unstoppable Bosnian group Dubioza Kolektiv.
The music of Bohemian Betyars spans a wide spectrum from folk to punk; therefore, it’s not surprising that their wealth of options to cooperate with fellow artists is incredibly wide. Their last track featured the Catalan band La Pegatina, and their singer even joined the lads on stage one of the legs of their Spanish tour. Now the internationally successful and recognized Bosnian band, Dubioza Kolektiv, joins forces with Bohemian Betyars, who shared the stage three years ago at one of Europe’s biggest open-air venues called Budapest Park with the lads. Their friendship extends beyond that performance; eight years ago they performed on the same stage of a Spanish festival, then continued the shenanigans at their hotel in Turkey. Back then, they couldn’t even dream that their comradery could result in a song, but their recent performance at Budapest Park gave the first push towards collaboration. Levente Szucs, one of the frontmen of Bohemian Betyars, recalls the joint work:
“I think it’s the Eastern European vibes that bring us together musically. I also think that it is a huge accomplishment to achieve such international acclaim coming from Bosnia as they have, giving us and other bands from the region a good example. Initially, we sent them the musical base of the track, waited quite a while, but it was worth the wait; what we got back was absolute perfection.”
